Ready for Valentines’ Day? Update Your Visual Resume!

By Susan Preston of Geek Adonis

How attractive do you feel? Are you confident when heading out on a first date? Is making a good first impression important to you? Taking a look at and improving your ‘visual resume’ on a regular basis can help you feel more attractive AND boost your confidence.

A 2011 research study at Harvard University and Mass General determined that people form their first impression of you in a quarter of a second based solely on how you look. But don’t be intimidated; wearing clothing that fits well and choosing the most flattering colors for you both go a long way toward creating a positive image.

Begin this process by determining the best colors for you. Just because you like a particular color doesn’t mean it will be flattering for your skin tone.

And what about the fit of your clothing? Too tight or too big are both fashion no-no’s and will only serve to make you feel uncomfortable, unattractive and less confident.

Consider your shoes carefully. Make sure they go well with the outfit you’ve chosen and that they feel good on your feet.  As we say in the styling business, “Ain’t nobody pretty if their feet hurt!”

Don’t forget the importance of good grooming. Flattering hairstyles for both men and women and trimmed facial hair on guys are the icing on the cake. You’ll look more inviting and you’ll feel great.

Investing time in your appearance can yield big dividends for you in first impressions and lasting impressions. Here’s to Valentine’s Day!
